SNAPR: Social Networking Action & Privacy Risk Methodology

Step 5: Rating of Profile Content

Although privacy management and the number of profile actions are significant factors of your overall risk, your profile content may be the most important determination of risk.  Depending on the nature of content posted on your profile, your risk may drastically increase or decrease.

The following Content Rating Scale (based on the standard movie rating system) provides descriptions of four different content ratings.  Each rating characterizes the nature of the content on your profile.  Review the table and choose the content rating that most closely reflects your profile.

The G and PG ratings act as mitigating factors of your overall risk.  If you have either of these ratings, draw the corresponding arrowed line on your Risk Scale beginning at your symbol.

The PG-13 and R ratings agitate your risk by increasing it.  If you have either of these ratings, draw the corresponding arrowed line on your Risk Scale beginning at your symbol.  Make sure the arrow is pointed in the correct direction.

The arrowed line  shows the impact that the nature of your content has on your risk.

Are you okay with your content rating? Think about reducing your risk by changing the nature of content in your profile.  Certain actions you might take include removing applications, photos, videos, wall comments, and personal information that could exhibit strong sexuality, violence, prejudice, illegal activity, etc. to people with different perspectives than you.

Now that you rated profile content, proceed to Results.
